Round 4 – 29th April
The under 5’s had alot of fun today playing south eastern. With coach Brendan away, Trainer Suz stepped up and helped the kids learn the game. With tries scored by most of the kids, and great tackling done by everyone. They seem to be grasping the rules of the game, even though we still ran backwards and sideways, we still managed to find the try line. The kids were finding it hard to make it through all 4 quarters, but today they had an energy like never before and were deadly in the last quarter! Well done kids!
Today the kids were keen to play from the kick off, with lots of big runs and hard tackles. Our night out at ANZ (playing so brilliantly) gave us more confidence to take on all the roles such as dummy half and assisting teammates tackle.
We went try for try with the Newtown Jnr Jets and ended up in a draw 24 -24.
The referee asked the coaches to have less participation in the play so we are looking forward to learning to be more independent on the field and listening to both the referee and our teammates.
Panther of the Week – Cuba
Top Tackler – Samarah
An early game this morning for our under 7’s at Snape Park. They played a great game with some really good hard runs with Valerie running through the whole Mascot team to score a great try. The final score 48 points to 20. It was a great team effort with alot of good tackles taking the other team over the side line on many occasions the boys and girls played with a good team spirit with everyone having some good runs and some great tackles.
We were presented with another cracking autumn day as the La Perouse Panthers U/8’s entered into round 5 of the competition the same way they finished last year- undefeated. The Side they faced today were the mighty Coogee Wombats who had some of the biggest 8 year olds ever seen in history. To be honest it looked as if they had just been drafted from the NFL. This would not deter the mighty Panthers as they took the stadium(Boralee Park). In front of a packed house La Perouse unleashed their secret weapon Cadel who played 1st receiver and this will be a day remembered as Jonathan Thurston said “Thank god I’m retiring so I don’t have to play against this up and comer”. Cadel won Channel 9 player of the match but he wasn’t the only standout in 62-20 win. Kobi with her usual 110 tackles per game and 8/9 tries. I actually lost count. Also Nate and Longy put in great performances. We got the chocolates today but I’m sure the coaches will be back to the drawing board to find our reputable wall of steel defence. I have to give a wrap to the Wombats today as they had more offloads than Artie Beetson in his whole career. It was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for watching, by for now.
After last weeks forfeit our boys were keen for the win, a tough game but we defeated South Eastern 22 – 4.
The boys missed some tackles which we will work on at training, but some great individual defence.
Thor Easter scoring his first try for the season
Trainer of the Week – Jordy Kelly
Best Forward – Kingston Cooke
Best Back – Mal Quinlan
The boys lost to last years Premiers Maroubra 40-6. Boys played good in patches and did some great ball movement on the field against a very drilled defensive team. The boys just need to keep working on their defence and working on some safe sets getting out of our own half. Should have everyone back on board this week at training to keep building and getting better!
U11’s Round 4. We played against Maroubra today and came home with the win 20-12. The boys started off well scoring in the first set of 6. Our defence got a little weak towards the end of the first half & we let in a couple soft tries. After half time and a few stern words from the coach the boys came back and finished of the game strong.
The boys will be focusing on our intensity in defence at training this week.
Congratulations to Bailey who got Man of the Match today.
What an awesome game today for the U12’s!!!
They played against South Eastern at Rowland Park.
Its always a tense and passionate game between these two teams and as you can imagine the rivalry is fierce.. We had everything from big hits, to try saving tackles and as always plenty of banter from the supporters from both teams.
It’s great to see the team starting to gel and with the addition of our 3 new players, Billy, Kade and Jayden as well as a return from Hunter Morgan and Kiani Duckett. It makes for an exciting year ahead.
Great defence by all was instrumental in today’s game and it’s great to see all the kids backing up and supporting each other out there.
Although our boys and girls didn’t get the win today, it was only by a converted goal that separated the two with the final score being 6-4.
Can’t wait for next round!
First home game of the year for 15s today, playing before A reserve saw us have a pretty big crowd ready to cheer us on. Hard game found us defending constantly but going into half time you wouldn’t have told with the score 8-6 Paddo’s way. 2nd half nothing went our way we just couldn’t hold onto the ball and get any repeat sets or a penalty! The last 15mins the boys seemed exhausted from all the tackling they had to do and Paddo ran over a few tries for 22-6 final score.
It was our first game at Yarra and we wanted to put in a good performance for our supporters and hopefully our first win. We played a tough RAB team who always lift when we play each other and they didn’t disappoint. Pal, Jamie, Taz and Leroy played their first game for Lapa this year and all of them had great games. It actually was Leroy’s first ever Rugby League game he’s played and I look forward to seeing Leroy’s skills and game sense progress throughout the year. We finally got our first victory, winning 18-4. With tries from Buddah, Maxi, Jamie and Harro. Buddah captained the team today and done a great job and was our man of the match. Jamie was a close second and Mark, Taz and Cody all had standout games.
